Panel Designer v5 — DSL Reference

Panel Definition (required, must be first command)

panel <width> <height> <thickness> [radius <r>] [kfactor <k>] [reliefs auto|none]
panel <width> <height> gauge <id> [radius <r>] [reliefs auto|none]

Defines the panel outline. Corner radius is optional (default 0). Give either a thickness or a gauge — see Materials & Gauges below. With a bare thickness the app assumes a bend radius equal to the thickness and K = 0.44; a gauge supplies the real values.

reliefs auto places bend reliefs automatically — see below. The Auto reliefs checkbox above the preview writes this onto the panel line for you.

Automatic Bend Reliefs

With reliefs auto, a relief is added wherever a bend line stops with material still beside it: at the ends of partial flanges, and at a panel corner where two flanges meet. A bend that runs clear off the edge of the blank gets none, because there is nothing there to tear.

Sizing follows SendCutSend: depth ≥ bend radius + thickness + 0.020" measured from the centre of the bend, and width ≥ half the material thickness. A hand-placed relief near an automatic one suppresses it, so you can override any individual case.

Hole

hole <cx> <cy> dia <diameter>
hole <cx> <cy> <radius>

Positioned by center. Use dia for diameter or just give a radius value. circle is still accepted as an older spelling of the same command.

Rectangle

rect <cx> <cy> <width> <height> [radius <r>]

Positioned by center. Corner radius is optional (default 0).

Slot (obround)

slot <cx> <cy> <width> <height>

A rounded-end slot. Fully rounded ends.

Bend Line

bend y <position> angle <degrees> up|down
bend x <position> angle <degrees> up|down

A bend across the panel. bend y = horizontal bend line at Y position. bend x = vertical bend line at X position. Direction is up (away from viewer) or down (toward viewer).

Flange (syntactic sugar for edge bends)

flange top|bottom|left|right <depth> [angle <degrees>] [up|down] [from <start> to <end>] [radius <r>]

Adds a bend line at the edge plus a flange extension region. Full-width by default. Use from/to for partial (tabbed) flanges. Multiple flanges per edge are supported for creating tabs. radius rounds the two outer flange corners. Angle defaults to 90°. up (default) folds away from the viewer, down toward it — four up flanges make an open-top tray.

3D Folded Preview

Switch the preview to 3D Folded to see the part with its bends formed. Faces keep their developed flat length and the bend arcs use the same bend allowance as the flat pattern, so the two views agree dimensionally. Drag to orbit, shift+drag to pan, scroll to zoom, double-click to fit. The badge in the corner shows the folded bounding box.

Standalone bend lines split the panel into folded faces; the largest face stays flat and the rest fold off it. Flanges fold off the panel edge they are attached to. Cut features are shown as true holes in the face they sit on.

Bend Relief Notch

relief <cx> <cy> dia <diameter>
relief <cx> <cy> <diameter>

Circular cut feature for stress relief at bend intersections. Place at corners where flanges meet to prevent tearing and bulging. Integrated into the cut outline as a notch when on a panel edge. Shown in red in preview.

SVG Import

svg <cx> <cy> <width> <height> <filename>

Places an imported SVG shape at the given center, scaled to fit width × height. Use the Import SVG button to load the file first. Supported elements: path, circle, ellipse, rect, polygon, polyline, line. Bezier curves are flattened to line segments. Unsupported elements (text, images, filters, etc.) are skipped with a warning.

Bend Allowance

Bend radius defaults to material thickness. Bend allowance: BA = π/180 × angle × (R + K × T). Bend deduction: BD = 2 × setback − BA where setback = tan(angle/2) × (R + T).

Materials & Gauges

Use gauge <id> on the panel line instead of a thickness. The gauge sets thickness, the real tooling bend radius and the K-factor, so the flat pattern matches what SendCutSend will actually form. Without a gauge the app falls back to assuming the bend radius equals the material thickness and K = 0.44, which is only ever a rough guess.

panel 6in 4in gauge CRS-059

A bend angle outside the gauge’s formable range is reported as an error. Data below is from SendCutSend’s published SolidWorks gauge tables.
